ITALIA MIA

Parthenia’s concert ITALIA MIA features a lavish selection of music from the Italian and French Renaissance for viol consort and lute. Parthenia, playing on replica viols from the 16th century, is joined by lutenist Christopher Morrongiello for a performance of works by most prominent 16th century composers such as Francesco da Milano, Josquin des Prez and Philippe Verdelot.

WILLIAM BYRD ~ THOMAS WEELKES: A 400th Anniversary Celebration

This concert is a celebration commemorating the music of William Byrd (1543–1623) and Thomas Weelkes (1576–1623). Parthenia and The Queens College Vocal Ensemble, directed by James John, join forces for this momentous 400th anniversary celebration featuring works for viols and voices.

TOMB SONNETS: Music and Poetry by Candlelight

Through music and verse, with poems by Emily Dickinson, Dylan Thomas, and Francesco Petrarca and others, Parthenia presents TOMB SONNETS: Music and Poetry by Candlelight where the enduring themes of longing, loss and memory are explored. The program features works by composer Martin Kennedy, including his song cycle, Tomb Sonnets, and the premiere of Kontakion for viol consort and tenor. Parthenia, joined by actor Jonathan Richards and vocalist Ryland Angel, intersperses dramatic readings spanning seven centuries among Renaissance and contemporary music for viol consort and voice.
